History

The parish church of St Michael’s, at the heart of the village of Cumnor, has been the focus of Christian worship since at least 1100, when it was part of Abingdon Abbey. A Grade 1 listed building with several unique features, including a spiral staircase from 1685 and 17th Century reading box and pulpit.  it retains its traditional feel, with pews, organ, 16th-century memorial tomb and peal of eight bells.  Recent improvements include the creation of a servery, lavatory and vestry and a new eco friendly heating system.

The church is open to the public every day from 9:00am to 5:00pm

A fascinating history and guide to St Michael's church by Edward Impey and Robert Evans has recently been published and is available for purchase from the Parish Office.
